Mode

Specifies how this layer is blended with the image behind it.  Changing this property can lead to widely varying results.

Opacity

This property modifies the overall opacity of the current style layer.  Decrease the value to lower the effect that this layer has on the image behind it.

Skip for Color Only

During color-only renders, certain parts of a texture, usually those adding highlights or shadows, are skipped so that a flat-looking version is created.  Activating this property will cause this style layer to be skipped during color-only renders.  This property doesn't have an effect on normal renders.  More information on color-only rendering can be found in the Using Effect Maps tutorial.
