Overview
This node refracts a base image through a perfectly transparent three-dimensional refractive medium. The surface of this medium is defined by a height map provided by one of the node's inputs.
You can think of this node as what you would see if you looked at a picture though an irregular piece of glass.

Description
Base
The base image to be refracted through an irregular three-dimensional medium.
Heightmap
The red channel of this input is used as a height map for constructing the refractive volume.

Properties

Property
Description
Index
Specifies the refractive index of the surface. The refractive index describes the degree to which a surface will bend light rays passing through it.
Elevation
Increasing values move the refractive surface farther away from the base image in the z direction, increasing the effects of distortions. Negative values move the volume closer to the image, and eventually behind it, at which point refraction will no longer occur.
Height Factor
Scales all values of the input height map by a given factor to quickly change overall elevations. Entering a negative value will reverse elevations, although a positive Elevation must be set at that point for there to be an effect.
