Overview
Creates a new effect map from the input image. Since effect maps are monochromatic, it will use only the red channel of its input to create the effect map. If the red channel has no meaningful data in it, it may attempt to use the green channel, followed by the blue. A simple example using this node can be found on the Effect Map page.
Inputs
This node takes a single input. It won't affect the input image itself, but it will alter any effect maps present in this part of the texture, as described above.
Properties
Property
Description
Map Name
Assigns a name to the effect map created by this node. Because effect map names such as this may be used by Layer Maps nodes further down to identify what they will operate on, it is recommended that you set clear names for all of your effect maps as soon as possible.
Clear Previous
By default, this node will add the newly created effect map to the list of any other effect maps already present at this part of the tree. However, if you would like to guarantee that there will be exactly one effect map at this point in the texture, you may activate this property.
Fix Contrast
If the effect map created by this node has an undesirable washed-out appearance, activate this property to adjust its contrast to make use of the full tonal range from black to white.
