The Source section of the Blend Synthesis layer type affects how the seamless texture is created.
The Synthesis Mode property at the top of this section specifies the technique used to create the texture. Depending on how it is set, different properties will appear below it.
Fold Edges
With Synthesis Mode set to "Fold Edges," the image is made seamless by stretching parts of it past each edge.
Left: The source image used in this example. Right: In Fold Edges mode, the is image stretched rightwards and downwards, then folded back over itself.
Star Blend
With Synthesis Mode set to "Star Blend," two copies of the image are placed in the resulting texture: one in the center and one at the corners.
Left: The source image used in this example. Right: In Star Blend mode, the image is placed in the middle and at the corners.
