Resolution Independence Previous    Page 21 of 25    Next

Today's target systems range from the smallest handhelds to the latest desktops, leading to a huge range in texture resolution requirements. Furthermore, blistering advances in computer technology mean that what qualifies as a high-resolution texture this year may be an obsolete, low-resolution texture a couple years down the road.

Genetica obliterates the need to scrap old work as resolution requirements increase because of its ability to render any texture at any resolution up to 3,000 by 3,000 pixels.

The illustration above shows the insane amount of detail available in almost any Genetica texture. Genetica textures are inherently resolution independent, which means they can be quickly re-rendered at a variety of resolutions, cutting time and cost requirements to a tiny fraction in situations where textures would otherwise have to be scrapped and redone to meet higher resolution requirements.
